Short Overview

My project initially sets out to utilise an online platform to create a series of interventions which are used to transform the public spaces within the wooden district of Snipiskes. The interventions are managed by the Municipality through the platform (MUSU) in partnership with local architects, designers and artists. The interventions are funded through the platform which uses civic crowd funding. MUSU allows the local residents to have control and transform their spaces as they see fit.

Current Investigations

While looking at the transformation of public spaces through the participation of local residents and designers, I wanted the design of the interventions to be mobile and transformative. Some of the interventions are made from the old garage sheds, their materials stripped down and cleaned to construct a structure that will be mulitfunctional. It is important that these interventions are easily moved from one location to the next.

As this project develops, I will be looking at the garage plots as a potential site. The metal garages will be broken down, repaired and transformed to create new spaces that will see local tradesman and communities move in to create, grow, play and experiment.

Part of the process of getting local residents involved is through the use of interactive play. This will be done through the municipality where they will house a scale model of the wooden district. This model will be segmented to create plots. When an area has been flagged possible further development, residents will be notified and will have a chance to interact with the model of that specific area. When interacting with the model, the information will be recorded and analised through the platform. When there have been several iterations, the platform will then calculate the average arrangements of the pieces. The municipality will use this information to help develop an area while keeping the interest of the public at hand.
