The Secret Collector: wonders glass bottle in hand, finding the best leaves, twigs, bark and anything else the ground has to offer; gently placing each one into the sacred capsule – but does not cradle it home to a waiting shelf of their trove, no – instead lays it in the wet grass. An offering, a gift to the next passer-by. But the collector never stops, conkers lay scattered ahead and they must be reunited in a safe place.
The world is obscured, through the secret collectors eyes; patterns constantly emerging, shapes shifting and sorting into sections of similar shapes.
Steph works for a consultancy in the planning, development & transport team, Leamington Spa. Currently, she is completing Y6 RIBA Part 2 M.Arch at Sheffield Hallam University. Her past work, based in Sheffield during Studio 4, explored themes of finding beauty in the seemingly dull; taking a second look at spaces and potential for organised 'happenings' demonstrating how they can be occupied and form relationships. As part of Atelier 3 in Y5, her project based in Snipiskes, Vilnius, developed the notion of collecting and collective participation. It questioned the role of the architect in building capacities for communities and also asked what else architectural output could be. This year, as a member of Y6 studio in Atelier 1, Atelier themes around Borders, Frontiers and Territories will be researched and set in and around Newcastle, Berwick-upon-Tweed and the Debatable Lands.
